Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Americans!!! I went a bit rebellious this year and made a British-themed dinner. Cornish pasty filled with skirt steak, carrot, rutabaga (swede), onion, thyme and sage. Arugula (rocket) salad with cucumber, raddichio, tomato, and lemon dressing. Herb butter parsnips. Stuffing with portabello mushrooms and bacon. Mashed potato with fennel. Beef gravy made with broth and AHHH Bistro, because you can’t have a big British dinner without instant gravy granuals.
Hitomebore rice, curried steak, thyme, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, cucumber, black sesame, rice vinegar.
Spaghetti, creamy tomato sauce with Chanterelle mushrooms and Italian parsley.
Lettuce, broccoli, white mushroom, cucumber, dressing.
Spicy potato salad with onion and mizuna, lettuce, edamame.
Pocket sandwich #1: Dark rye, cucumber, salmon&cream cheese spread.
Pocket sandwich #2: Dark rye, deli mustard, salami, smoked gruyere.
Baked beets with Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, mizuna, olive oil, and black pepper, served with chicken broth Basmati rice. I was kind of proud of how I was able to make a non-Japanese meal so minimalistic.
I think I made Japanese/Italian/American fusion?
Gluten-free penne, fresh tomato sauce, onion, garlic, olive oil, shiitake, bacon, shiso.
Chicken & feta & spinach sausage, beet greens, boiled egg, young onion greens, lettuce, horseradish cheese, corn with butter.
Quinoa cooked in chicken stock with carrot & lettuce & young onion greens, grapes.
We had some milk hotpot / Asuka nabe (飛鳥鍋) tonight, during a cold windy thunderstorm! This is the main nabe meal I’ve kind of not wanted to try because it sounded a bit unappetizing, but I was completely wrong. Using milk instead of cream doesn’t really make it any heavier than say miso soup.
Chicken, cabbage, yellow onion, green onion, spinach, enoki.
Served with mochigome (sweet rice).
Carrot & burdock kinpira, chard with ground sesame sauce, boiled egg, edamame, pink salt, haigamai rice.
